Many tube manufacturers want to know whether one High Frequency Welded Tube Mill can produce both carbon steel pipes and galvanized pipes. In many cases, the answer is yes. With the appropriate production configuration, the same tube mill can be used for different pipe materials and applications.

Tube Mill Zinc Spraying Section

A High Frequency Welded Tube Mill forms steel strip into a tube and continuously joins the tube edges through high frequency welding. When producing carbon steel pipes, the machine can process suitable cold rolled or hot rolled steel strip according to the required pipe diameter and wall thickness.

For galvanized pipe production, the basic tube manufacturing process remains the same. The steel strip is uncoiled, connected, formed and welded before passing through the sizing, straightening and cutting sections. However, an additional zinc coating section can be installed after the welding process.

The zinc coating section or zinc spraying machine is designed to apply zinc powder to the welded area. During production, the welded seam is treated with zinc powder to provide additional protection and help restore the corrosion resistance of the galvanized coating around the weld area.

This configuration provides manufacturers with greater production flexibility. When producing carbon steel pipes, the zinc coating section can be bypassed. When producing galvanized pipes, the zinc spraying system can be activated after high frequency welding.

Therefore, manufacturers do not necessarily need two separate tube mills for carbon steel and galvanized pipe production. By adding a zinc coating section after the welding process, one High Frequency Welded Tube Mill can be configured to produce both carbon steel pipes and galvanized pipes.

The final machine configuration should be selected according to pipe diameter, wall thickness, steel grade, production speed and galvanized pipe requirements. A properly designed production line can help manufacturers reduce equipment investment, improve production flexibility and efficiently meet different customer demands.
